eMagazines Acquires eType Services, Bringing Best-in-Class Reading Technology to Hundreds of Community Newspapers
We have exciting news to share: eMagazines has acquired eType Services, the largest digital edition and technology provider for community newspapers in the US.
eType has spent more than a decade building tools that helped hundreds of community newspapers make the digital transition. That is a remarkable foundation, and we are proud to be its next chapter.
For eType’s customers, it means an upgrade in reading technology. The same mobile-optimized platform trusted by Bloomberg, People Inc., Hearst, Sports Illustrated, and TIME Magazine is now available to community newspapers across the country — replacing flat PDF replicas with a reading experience built for today’s audiences.
For eMagazines, it means two new capabilities we did not previously offer: eType’s paywall infrastructure, supporting both hard and metered subscription access, and a content management system purpose-built for community newspaper workflows — helping editorial teams create more engaging content and drive more revenue.
We care deeply about local journalism and what it means to the communities it serves. Local news organizations are sitting on something valuable. Our goal is to give them every tool we can to help them realize it: a world-class reading experience, subscription technology that grows revenue, and the ability to leverage their content in deals with AI companies.
As Thad Swiderski, Founder of eType Services, put it: “Joining eMagazines ensures that our customers gain access to world-class reading technology and a platform that can continue evolving alongside their needs. I’m excited about what this combination means for the future of community news.”
