Sports Illustrated Case Study

Sports Illustrated needed a targeted way to sell print single issues and collectible editions created around landmark sporting events and iconic annuals like the Swimsuit Issue online.

A cookie cutter landing page wouldn’t cut it. We launched the first landing page for the famous Swimsuit Issue in 2020, which included multiple covers that customers could choose from and get instant digital access while they wait for their print copy. In addition to selling single issues, SI wanted to include a subscription upsell.

All of this was done seamlessly using eMagazines landing page system that was designed for magazine publishers. We also connected with their fulfillment agency, CDS to immediately pass orders through.  

A one-page express checkout system was extremely important. Many of the single issues and commemoratives sold out when SI targeted specific groups online through social media. A great example of that was with the issue that featured Gonzaga on the cover and included a large feature in the magazine. The issue sold out in 3 days, and of course consumers received instant digital access to that issue.
